Imperial… the beer of Costa Rica
For more than 83 years, Imperial has been Costa Rica's favorite beer. Its origins go back to 1924, when the Ortega brewery decided to create a beer that adapted German brewery traditions to the tastes of Costa Ricans. It was an immediate hit, and today it is the undeniable domestic market leader, preferred by more than half of Costa Rican beer drinkers.
Throughout its history, Imperial has reflected Tico style and is a time-honored tradition. The brand has always represented the Costa Rican temperament: joyful, sociable, popular and, above all, full of national pride.
Its reputation eventually grew beyond our borders, and in 2004 it made the leap to the United States, breaking into the world's largest and most competitive beer market.
Imperial’s formula combines a perfectly balanced mixture of malt, grains and hops. It is known as a centralized beer, which makes it extremely refreshing and well suited to our warm, tropical climate. It has a pleasant bitterness, lightly pronounced and fleeting on the palate, and a mild, clean, mellow taste.
Its excellence won it a silver medal at the prestigious Monde Selection® 2006 awards in Belgium, where brands from 71 countries competed in various categories.
